In a rapidly changing context, how can refugee entrepreneurs launch and grow their business? Setting off to answer this question, Dutch non-profit organization Spark teamed up with Syrian entrepreneur Ahmad Sufian Bayram to produce the COVID-19 Survival Guide for Refugee Businesses.

The Guide, available in both languages English and Arabic, aims to to be a resource for all startups and SMEs  struggling in the break of the current global pandemic. With chapters on strengthening your team and operation, improving your market position, defending against revenue declines, and case studies, the easy-to-apply knowledge can assist businesses to survive and overcome the pandemic.

The Survival Guide is considered a ‘living’ document and will be continuously updated and revised with further support for refugee entrepreneurs.

The guide was created by Ahmad Sufian Bayram, a Syrian social entrepreneur and an author with over nine years of experience in business development. It is intended to provide business leaders with a perspective on the evolving situation and implications for their companies based on the level of the impact that the business had. In addition, it provides an analysis of their status quo under the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the situation is ever-evolving, the Survival Guide is considered a ‘living’ document and will be continuously updated and revised with further support for refugee entrepreneurs. It will keep preparing startups for the next phase of the current crisis now, which would be more effective than an ad hoc, reactive response when the crisis actually hits.
